funny thing is, the exact same thing happened when me and a mate were playing bowling together. we didnt have the straps on he bowled and the mote came straight out of his hand and into my plasma. luckily it didnt even mark it. he wouldnt be with us any more if he had broken it ;) at that time my tv was only a month or 2 old. we werent standing that close either. but it can definitely happen.

Yes, they've always had straps but there have been some revisions.

the original console did come with a strap but the little piece of plastic holding it to the wiimote was breaking so they released a revision to that.
