@Krzyszczynski Yes, that was almost certainly the case. Bill Brown [in particular] was a top class keeper.He was replaced as Spurs No 1, in 1964 by the great Pat Jennings.

@TheWhitehall : I seem to remember that Haffey was third choice after both Brown and George Niven (Rangers) were kept out because of injury.

@paolorossifan2006 No, it's considered one of Haynes' better games in an England shirt. But, what's usually considered his best showing for England was when he scored a hat-trick & essentially tore the Soviet defence apart single-handedly in '58. I watch this video when I feel depressed. After watching it I feel even worse.
My father often recalled the time he went to the toilet after the game and a drunken Scotsman burst in claiming he would "smash anee anglishman". My quick thinking father pretended to be deaf and dumb so he did not give away his nationality. Quite brilliant - God Bless you Dad.

@poomplexsoljah u called him the 'The Maestro' but i was lucky enough 2 call him uncle john even tho technacly he was my 3rd cuzin since he was my grandads cuzin
