unlike a lot of jazz guitarists, wes never sounded like he was playing from a sheet. he didn't read anyway. his improv was always fresh genius. the man is in the angel band.

I mean those scales or whatever he is playing in his licks/solos are sick. He's got like a ton of them.

He only read chords somewhat never single lines. Wes had an incredibile ear according to all the greats who worked with him. He'd say to learn a tune,
Play it for me" That's all it took!
