absolutely brilliant. I bought this when it came out and destroyed the vinyl...by playing too much...

I'd like to hear it again- have it someplace, lost. Another atypical Ornette session is "Forms & Sounds" which I like a lot. There is a string quartet on one side, and a woodwind quintet on the other (through which Ornette plays solo phrases on the trumpet)- good stuff.

Love this. You know, it's funny, but until hearing Ornette's work in an orchestral context, I never realized how many compositional traits he shared with Frank Zappa.

Yes, well observed (listened?). Atonal, assymetrical phrases, rapid succession of notes and almost facetious rythmic persistence. Also subject matter - americana, america's bizarre underbelly - Frank's bag. Frank's harmonized melodies, distributed across many instruments, played homophonically, remind me of messiaen. Prompted me to relisten some stuff, in particular with the london symphony orchestra, which is great. excellent orchestration.
Perhaps I should upload the rest of skies of america.
