Hi, I have a 2 year old yorkie that was diagnosed with a liver shunt last year and went for major surgery to fix it. She was given a 50/50 chance that if they fixed and closed off the vessel that the liver would not be able to handle such blood flow and she may seizure and die. It was a big risk but we were willing to do anything for our baby. During the surgery the abnormal vessel was not found. She now is on meds for life and we have her bile acids checked twice a year and she is doing better

I am going crazy!!! My 1 and a half year old precious yorkie just went blind suddenly and when I went to the vet, I was told that his liver enzymes were out of normal range. They think he has liver shunts. Nobody knows why he suddenly went blind. Does he have to have surgery? He is only 3 lbs and is soooo precious to me. How can I help him?

@SisterSunshineTV SS you are just as retarded as a Buddhist as you were as a Christer. Sold all yer Bibles yet? Just think of all the money you wasted on religious books over the years.
-
@02Blackbeard nice try at trolling but again FAIL.
-
@SisterSunshineTV But this is preferable to these selfish old bags who keep blind, deaf and lame pets SUFFERING beyond what is reasonable or compassionate, simply because they have an agenda to keep the animal alive. That is sick. it alse smack of extreme attachment, (to give a Buddhist term).

@della206 please do not let your mother have any more pets/animals as she obviously doesn't care enough to make sure she can afford them. that is sick.

Bless you and your baby!!

The words liver shunt came into our lives two weeks ago. Ginger, our 3 year old Yorkie, was diagnosed with the condition after she'd experienced several bouts of pacing, circling, head pressing, drooling. A blood test confirmed a liver problem. An ultrasound confirmed the shunt. We were told she needed the liver shunt surgery right away. The Veterinary Teaching Hospital at CSU in Ft. Collins took her in. The second day after surgery, she suffered a seizure and died. We are devastated.

Hello! I have greyhound with LS. He is almoust 2 years old. He is eating the Royal Canine Hepatic feed. The Hills l/d feed didn't work on his well.I have the question to owners of dogs with LS: have your dogs more often pissed through this illness? My much and at home is also spouting out.
big thanks to futuremilf2008 for comments and good notes. i am working hard to make web page about LS and mex, atleast to set it on my space. as i have busy life lately, it takes longer than expected.

My Yorkie has a serious liver disease which just developed recently, but stems from the fact she too was bought in a pet shop-Sometimes the problems take time to develop, my baby is only 3 and she started showing signs of liver disease a couple of months ago. She almost died on me, i nursed her back to health like a baby! Most people are not prepared to take care of a sick animal- My Yorkie is fed with a syringe 3 times a day, is on liver supplements, gets lactulose and vitamins.

i am so sad to hear that. i hope everything will work fine. i am one of those who are convinced that liver shunt can be coped with proper diet. i 'm not saying i 'm right, but in mex's case the only food which worked in royal canine hepatic. i don't know if you can get it in your country, but i am sure you can order it online. i am too scared, but with liver shunt dog you can never be carefull enough.

coco is on Hills HD...she is confused sometimes, and tired all the time- it's upsetting. she is not the same dog.we are careful with what we feed her...i got tons of info on line about the disease and how to manage it. It's heartbreaking but at least they have owners like us who care for them..most people get rid of their dogs or put them in shelters

exactly. i also noticed that mex seemed tired while he was on HD, thats why i changed to his food. i know for another dog who benefited same way. i am also giving portalac syrup to mex, which makes him do "the big thing". you can ask your wet about that. i was lucky enough to get a vet who really did a lot for mex. portalac is used by people, i am giving just a little amount, according to his weight, and to be honest, sometimes i feel that LS is just a thing of a past now.

I seriously cried for like 5 minutes after the video ended. I think my dog has this but I don't think she was born with it since the symptoms started appearing after she was two years old, she's now five and she I think she's bit bigger than most yorkies are, and her hair grows pretty quickly but she does have the other symptoms. What hurts me the most is that I don't have money to get her everything she needs, but I'm going to change her diet I'm not going to let eat anymore human food...

to what you wrote, i don't think your dog has ls. LS dogs are smaller than normal. as you're saying you noticed simptoms when she was 2 and now she's 5, that makes it 3 years without treatment. i am almost sure that's not ls. but still i'd recomend you to take her to check up. about the food: no dog is supossed to eat "human food". above all yorkies are prone to get overweight, thats why they need to be fed with care. believe me dog food is cheaper than vet treatment! have nice hollidays
