KCRW's MATT MILLER, AND ME

Matt Miller of KCRW's "Left, Right, and Center" has a new book called The Tyranny of Dead Ideas. On February 26, 2009 Mr. Miller came to Village Books in Pacific Palisades (CA) and gave a fine reading. I like him a lot, but I regard his views as rather rosy and naive -- very well adapted to current media institutions, but miles away from the bone-crashing realities of Peak Oil, climate chaos, US T-Bill default, and the global food crisis. So in the Q & A period, I said so. Teaching moment or PR trainwreck? You decide!

You laid out the facts and he seems to still believe "everything will be fine" and that unlimited growth can continue on our finite planet with no problems. Wow... and to think we consider ourselves intelligent. No wonder we are in the mess we are in.

The titanic is sinking and rather than deploy the lifeboats people are walking around with some naive notion everything is ok cuz the captain doesn't have the balls to say the truth and give the order to abandon the ship.
