They weren't my words. They were from a documetary. I know they landed in the wrong area, I also know the marines climbed up a cliff face at Point Du-Hoc which was a flanking maneouvre so that the US could destroy the artillery guns a couple of miles inland, which were damaging the destroyers off shore.
A good number of Marines that survived the landing didn't go home right away. They ended up as occupying troops in Japan at the end of the war or in China. There was no world wide web so it's no surprise that they didn't see the photo until some time later.
Japan started the war with the US and Germany declared war on the US a couple days after. The Japaneese did not declare war on the US until after Pearl Harbor, by the way. Japan was in no danger from Germany as they were allies during the war.
Im suprized the Americans actually hit Hiroshima, the U.S air force at the time claimed that they could "Land a bomb in a jam jar".. but they missed the German bunkers completely at Omaha, no bomb craters we're even on the beach, being why they lost 6 thousand and more soldiers. No offence Americans, just making a point.
Actually it was Germany that started the way, Japan attacked the U.S to avoid confrontation with Germany.. Well thats what I read anyway, I may be wrong.
Such Crap. In 1940 England was on the ropes, saved by Lend Lease from the US and mistakes by Germany's leaders. But for this you'd be speaking Gemman today. Now go and say "Ahem, we once had an empire". Yeah, and Monty(Armheim Screwup) would have been Emperor.
