@crashcarney I admire your defense of REO, but can't agree with you. REO, Styx, Foreigner, Kansas, and other bands did sell out. If they had not started out as kick ass rock bands, then going pop would not be selling out, but going pop because that's where the money is, is pretty much the definition of selling out. Aerosmith managed it without losing their integrity, but Dennis, Kevin, and Mick knew they were changing horses and why. Not blaming them, but selling out is selling out.

@26930brad I haven't read all the comments here, but you do know that Kevin was not the original lead singer for REO, right? He was on REO 2, and then replaced by their third singer for a few years before coming back again. Kevin is my favorite singer for them, but not a founding member. For my money, no Gary, no REO. Not one song worth listening to after he left.

cant believe some people think one of the most unique voices ever can be replicated on a fretboard of a guitar, simple equation - no KC no REO. Be careful not to slip on all the peanut shells on the floor, you clowns who believe otherwise

REO... Did not sell out, they simply went where they would get paid, and so they got paid. There is more to the story than Gary just being a drunk!!! Just know that.
I promoted a concert for Richrath/Kansas in the early 90's. Had a great time with Gary on his bus. He's a GREAT guitarist.
REO could not have sustained or even gained any longevity or staying power with the great songs like 157 Riverside Ave or Golden Country, our goal in life is to get better or what is perceived is better. Pocket
