This is not the voice of Käthe von Nagy. In this film her singing was synchronized
by Hilde Seipp. Listen Hildes Shellacversion.

LG Alparfan

Thanks for the information about the voice dubbing. But von Nagy was an wonderful actress and comedienne, in this film often upstaging Gigli in that respect.

Fascinating film history, and von Nagy is outstanding. I'm surprised a film like this was permitted by the Nazis.

Actually the German film industry under the Nazis was very prolific, a continuation of the Weimar film industry, minus the Jews. Films with opera singers were popular. These were usually stories in which an opera performance is in the background, while the main plot revolves around a romance or love triangle. The films were usually made in several language versions besides German, usually Italian and/or French. Gigli - who was a favorite of Mussolini - starred in 3 or 4 of such productions.
