With Winter now upon us, we have been thinking back to happy holidays in the past. We have been talking recently about the one we had which allowed us to briefly visit Oban in Scotland, five years ago. We dug out the videos taken at the time which were on videotape, before Hard Drive camcorders were on the market. I began to wonder how I could possibly edit camcorder video tape these days as modern laptops no longer have Firewire inputs. So I resurected an old camcorder for the miniature tape playback and cleared some space on an old laptop for Firewire input and editing. I went through the process of editing from two original tapes. That takes a lot more time than with modern hard drive equipment and uses a lot more memory in the process. But I have now managed to remind myself now how to edit camcorder tapes! This could be useful in future as the older tapes do cover increasingly interesting content for me as the years pass by!.

  • I am amazed at the quality you've achieved on this one Mike, even on the wide screen option. A wonderful record of your trip to Scotland, and another very enjoyable watch....Bob

  • @robmasterman Thanks Bob. We lived in a settlement of temporary war time prefab houses back in the 1940s which had been removed when we went back looking in the 1960s. I have recently enjoyed having another look around the area using Goolgle Earth and located where I used to have fun playing as a child. Very enjoyable!

  • Another good enjoyed video. Good quality.

We visited Oban one day in July 2010 and it rained all day as it did on most other days.

To keep dry we went on that ferry to Mull. Reasonable fare, about £7 each, but we did not land there as rain continued and we would have had to stay there for about three hours. The ferry trip was enjoyabll. Great scenery.

  • @TriflingCircle When we visited Scotland in our Mini in the 1960s it was the first time we had been on holiday when it rained every day for the whole week! I can still remember the sound of the rain pounding on the thin roof of the car! We loved the scenery however and would like to go back again some time to have a better look around..

  • I very much liked this, as I have visited Oban a few times in the past. The quality of the video came out very well, I could not tell the difference from a modern video.

  • @newportphotoman Thank you. I too was pleased how things look on screen afer all the processing.
