  • Interesting mix of mock decadence & real sensuality! Why did they use a bow & arrow that looks almost like a toy? And the arrow seems clearly destined to hit to the left of Sebastiane (from our POV). Then it's shown stuck in his right armpit.

For 1976 this must have been a milestone in gay cinema.

Does anyone remember the portrait of Sebastiane pierced with arrows in the movie Strapped?

Gracias JJ! Your flurry of uploads began just as I was overwhelmed with work & had NO FREE TIME for fun! Nada!

  • @alwaysuseless Jarman's work was pretty much always completelly surrealistic and provocative. "Sebastiane" was a scandal in the Cannes film festival at that time. The prudeness of YT community rules doesn't allow me to show the full anatomy of the bodies and the high sensuality of the scenes. Nothing pretend to be realistic, but nonetheless you'll find interesting to know that Treviglio (Sebastiane) was accidentally pierced by one of the arrows in the final sequence. Gracias a ti amigo.

  • If I remember well Sebastian is the first movie in history entirely in correct Latin!

  • @RobinSandza It was, but according to some cinema critics wasn't too "correct"

  • Every single time u upload a new video it brightens my day :)

  • @TwiliVaati Thanks love. Glad to know that :))

  • @JJTheTrue I thought you conveyed the sensuality well. What you showed suggested there was more not shown.

When I referred to mock decadence, I meant that the departure from realism for me undermined a really palpable sense of decadence. But that's an impression based on a rather small/short sample from the movie.

Ooo, that makes me feel squeamish to know that while I'm calling the bow & arrow scene unconvincing, the actor was actually pierced—accidentally.
