Crawl Bug- close up test vid shot with Canon HV30

I LOVE the range of focus on the HV30! I can literaly place something ON the lens and this baby can focus on it. It can focus far far closer than the human eye. Yes, there's a typo at the end :( I just don't feel like rerendering it at 1 in the morning

I would say it's probably not a problem with your camera, rather, the way you might be rendering. Check out my video on how to render HD for youtube.

can you only manually focus this camera by using the focus wheel on the front? or can you use the joystick like other canons?

Unfortunately, the focus wheel is all canon supplied us with for manual focusing. I must say that it is the only fairly awkward part of the camera but I am still GLAD to have it :)

So far, your video is the clearest HV30 rendering I've seen on YouTube. Wondered if you could make a video showing how you render, what you use, settings bla bla. I've looked at alot and yours is superior. Nice work.

Thank you so much :) I will definitely make that vid. The main thing is to keep all the formats and frame rates matching the footage in the beginning THEN render when you are done as 'MainConcept AVC/AAC (*.mp4)' with the template set to 'Apple iPod 640X480 Video'. That seems to work the best for me. I use Sony Vegas Pro 8 software

Thanks for watchin bro :) Ya I shot this at school just to try out the camera but it ended up being pretty cool. The bugs were cool... their own universe going on right at our feet and I would have never noticed them otherwise.

The footage on the tape is captured digitally onto your computer via firewire, where it can be edited and such.

So, if it records on tape, how do you get it to YouTube? And when you take a shot, isn't it final? It seems like kind of a waste for HD... I'm kinda confused.

Hey umm i just got the hg10 that is AVCHD and its really hard to get it to stay at amazing quality putting it on youtube someone please help me what is easier also to get onto youtube, the HV30 or the HG10?

Crawl Bug was very clear. I have not gotten that definition on my close ups yet. Have you noticed that when you shot in High Definition that a full moon looks egg shaped on a standard TV or Computer monitor ? I agree with nytrini2005 on the manual focus and the joy stick could be positioned on the Right side so you wouldn't have to move you face if you were using the viewer.

Canon needs to come up with a better manual focus than what's supplied with the HV30. I have to roll this little wheel to focus? Overall, I'm yet to completely explore my HV30, but I like it.

For the reviewers elsewhere who complained about lack of performance at low light. Well I was amazed at some of the video I got. Quite impressive!
