Every cyclist will have come across this - as the chap in the final clip said to me at the time, "I have a combustion engine, I MUST be faster than a cyclist".

The first clip (Kia Ceed, LG09 NGF) decides to swerve in front, just before a big bridge pillar, because as a bike I'm clearly in the way. Not quite as much as the cars in front though it would seem.

Mr Saab (93 Convertible, X432 EGN) in the second clip was first checking his mobile phone when he almost jumped the lights (giving a sarcastic wave to the tour bus after stopping), then cut me up completely at the roundabout, before disappearing into the distance. For a while anyway. Why not wait for a safer straight?

And the bus (Lothian Buses no.19, SN04 AAY) in the last clip can be seen to save a whole nine seconds by overtaking me and cutting in front of the cyclist ahead. Nine seconds. He can be seen indicating before he's passed me completely, and before he's even got the front of his bus level with the cyclist in front.

What's the big rush?

  • Sadly I have my doubts. Cars are faster than bikes, ergo overtaking is a necessity...

  • It very unusual for a Lothian Bus IME; did you send LB the clip ? it looks like the driver needs a bit of retraining.

  • It's a BUS LANE which cyclists are allowed to use, not the other way round.

  • The bus driver saved less than 4 seconds. You should stop whoever you are paying road tax to - it was abolished in 1936. You pay vehicle excise duty based on the damage your vehicle does to the roads and environment. You have a licence to drive on the road, pedestrians and cyclists have a right to be there. Where are you on that pecking order?

  • These aren't video's .. they are art (applause) .

  • I've read the same of France and Spain.. even Italy in places. I suppose its our Island mentality?

Makes you wonder how much extra they pay for their fuel here in the UK, LOL

  • "Every cyclist " ? In Britain, the answer is yes. It happened to me all the time too. However... over here ? No. It simply doesn't happen. I've not had it happen once in two years since we emigrated.

  • Thanks for uploading this @urbancyclist, one hopes that drivers may come across this and realise the madness of never giving an inch..!
