@dewfall56 The research supports much better comprehensive ways to think about instruction relative to one or more stated learning objectives. It might be OK to tell people at parties what you do, but ADDIE is not specific enough for the professional in my view. Supply a more concrete model and then allow them to consider other models rather than an acronym (I do not even think of it as a model) which is applicable to myriad processes? With so many good books out there, why not use one?

@lenaris The ADDIE is generic, and rightly so. A model that covered every single possibility would be longer than US tax code. And those trained in it and using it would be just machines following predetermined steps. I've come to think of ADDIE as a teaching tool in itself, to help aspiring instructional designers learn how to design. Aren't designers supposed to be intelligent, creative thinkers who take things like ADDIE and change it to make it their own, with their own beliefs on design.

@franktroha You are correct, and I could break out dozens of articles to support you, but I am sure I do not have to.

@guywwallace Right on. I love the ISD resources on YouTube, but I am a little put off by self-proclaimed experts who know nothing of the scholarship who claim that ADDIE is ID. It is a generic framework applicable to all sorts of eventualities. It is far too vague to serve effective ID.
Bitter much?

No, I'm not bitter. I just happen to know instructional design.
