From the Gatewood Seminar circa 1995 at South Bay San Soo...

Some of this has been shown before, but the emphasis here is to show some differences in how Jimmy taught forms in the earlier days (vs. later in his career).

Check out the article at

for a more in depth look at "Tradition of San Soo?"

And as an extra bonus for all you believers in secret messages in videos and such, check out this thread for more on how Jimmy is doing his thing...

  • You don't see the "differences" between 1960s forms, and 1980s forms? The Five Black Belt Instructional Books by Carl Lorenzen; in volumes one and two contain form sheets with end to end shifting movements. In volumes three through five; contain form sheets with closer movements utilizing half strikes and quarter strikes (to the left side, and to the right side); striking in a mirror image to each side, standing in the same half horse stance (no shifting), and with the left foot nailed in place.

  • Wow. Talk about a low ceiling. Fashions may change but somethings stay the same.

  • @kungfusansoo5family <--- Actually, Grand Master Jimmy H. Woo passed away on Thursday, February 14, 1991 (not 1992).

  • Thanks for posting this video of Jimmy. Great to see video of him working out. He died right when I started San Soo in 1992 and I never got to meet him in person.

    Thanks -

  • I'm not sure it's changed that much really. It looks like most of the "differences" are by the students and how they punctuated the forms. In other words, the students seemed to focus more on the power of their strikes then everything else. But, in any case this is a great clip. Thanks for showing it. If I can, I'll try to show this one to my class.

  • Thank you for putting this up, it`s a real gift.
