Now that the standard 2009 Nissan GT-R is in full production, development of the 2010 Nissan GT-R V Spec is ramping up. This is a lightweight version of Nissan's new supercar and it's scheduled to go on sale next year. In addition to its notable reduction in weight, the track-rated GT-R V Spec is also expected to get a slight increase in horsepower over the 480 hp of the standard model.

Seen here lapping the Nürburgring test track in Germany, the 2010 Nissan GT-R V Spec has several visible upgrades. Up front, a small aerodynamic splitter with twin air intakes has been added to the front airdam. It doesn't look like much, but given how dependent the GT-R is on its aerodynamics, even a small addition like this has a big impact. A slightly revised rear spoiler, possibly made of carbon fiber, is also visible in back.

A set of lightweight six-spoke wheels is another visible upgrade. We can't tell if the Bridgestone Potenza tires wrapped around the new wheels are any bigger, but they're probably a slightly stickier compound. Also visible are new composite brake rotors and slightly revised calipers. We've been told these are for testing purposes only at this point and will only be used if they show considerable improvement over the standard setup. Considering that a stock GT-R turned in the shortest 60-0-mph stop we've ever recorded, the addition of these carbon brakes on the GT-R V Spec isn't assured.

In addition to the weight-reduction program, the 2010 Nissan GT-R V Spec is also expected to surpass the 500-hp mark. Although rampant speculation on the Internet suggests the GT-R is already developing more than 500 horses, our recent dynamometer testing says otherwise. Even if this GT-R only adds another 25-50 hp, however, its reduced weight should make it considerably faster than the base model. Expect to see some official Nürburgring lap times later this summer.

  • hachi, what you said is right about toyota, but for nissan, their GTRs are also beating godlike Corvettes left and right, not just european cars.

2011 V-Spec will eat your ZR1, just wait till the 2012 GT-R (new one), which already smokes a ZR1, gets a V-Spec version. The 'Corvette" will um..... no longer be the God that it is anymore.

  • @nobusan84 i dont quite remember what I said since my comment was from 2 months ago. but i think i commented in response to someone saying the supra sucks now er something along those lines....

dont get me wrong I still got nothing but love for supras. =)

  • The japanese automakers never learn. Remember what happened in the mid to late 90's with all the japanese 'supercars'? Great performance and great tech but at prices that made them compete with the european makers for the same market share. Now we have the GTR and LFA. Again, they never learn.

  • @bogdan555100 Time travel :p

  • @brlim02 Well the SpecV is still shrouded in a lot of mystery since it's not an export car. On the other hand, the 2012 GT-R Black edition is already making waves. In fact here it is tearing up the Nurburgring:

7:24.22 - not bad for running on semi wet conditions

  • @sailorenlil I own a supra and completely agree. Supra is definitely outclassed by the newer GT-Rs, but it was produced in a time when the R32s and R33s were running in the JGTC and did give those cars a run for there money.

cant wait til an official v spec lap time comes out =D

  • @sailorenlil and what are ur opinions on the z28? the z28 seems like a car ur describing... though its just something about the camaro that just makes the 0-60 time sooo slowww.... but do u think the z28 will be able to compete with supercars as the gtr,acr,zr1 or gt2?

  • @sailorenlil well actually camaro is quite understeering as shown in motor trend... and the power is too low 430hp isnt enough for a car that heavy.... that will be solved when camaro z28 comes out.. now lets pray it comes out to compete with supercars and not mustangs

  • @TheHm3 Now the Corvette ZR1 indeed is too unbalanced with its current power-weight ratio, and exaserbated by its use of the "Ladder Chassis" and older style suspension (resulting in a very "loose" rear end). The Camaro on the other hand is a better handling car (as demonstrated on Top Gear), but it just needs more power.

  • @TheHm3 Not at all. The 2010 Camaro has a curb weight of 3750 lbs, just 50lbs less than the Nissan GT-R. And from what I read (referring to the "Jay Leno Camaro" project), the 2010 Camaro's V6 engine is actually lighter than the V8 giving the LT/RT better weight distribution than the SS. The Jay Leno Camaro (which has a turbocharged V6) has 425HP - tune it with just 50HP more and it could be on par with the 2007-2010 GT-R (or bring it to over 500HP to match the 2012 GT-R).
