At home mango tasting with 10 friends and 13 varieties of mango in Fort Lauderdale, Florida on August 8, 2010. BR gives brief descriptions of the types of home-grown mangoes on the table. In addition to the mango, the table included home-grown lychee, pineapple, carambola, and cecropia figs. 2010 was a strange year for mangos and the season was late due to the winter weather. The mango varieties were (in order of appearance): Gary, Julie, Edward, Malika, Hayden, Kerry, Cogshall, and some volunteers nicknamed "Vanilla/Coconut": "Frank Atlass", "Tart Mutt", "George Johnson".

Wonderful tree, but you must have room for it, it grows fast and big, the mangoes are huge, and have good flavor. the Valencia and Keitt are trees that are resistant to fungus and things like that, The Valencia at my mothers house I planted about 10 years ago is now over 40ft tall, I have never pruned, nor sprayed it for anything, not even fertilizer. and produces 100s of mangoes. there are many excellent mangoes, try em out before you get a tree, your tongue will tell you whats best.

@Alina674 Glenn is my wife's favorite, and is smooth and sweet, Nam Doc Mai has a tremendous reputation, and always gets into the top 5 in taste competitions, but i have not tried it yet, although I have a small tree, Lancentilla is a really big mango, have not heard anything bad about them, I also have a small tree, not producing yet. Haden mentioned in video is a great mango , but has fallen out of favor because of black spots, and gets gelatinous in heavy rains, Valencia pride, is a -

Nam Doc Mai is flavorful and sweet, a very delicious fruit. I'd recommend it for a home garden. I know nothing of California cultivation but suggest that you check out what works for gardens in your neighborhood by asking around and observation. Not familiar with the varieties Glenn or Lancetilla. If you have a Rare Fruit and Vegetable Council in your area that would be an excellent resource for advice on cultivation and cultivar selection. Members also share fruit and plants.

HI, I was wondering what you can tell me about the Glenn, Lancetilla & Nam Doc Mai mangoes as far as their taste description and california growing? Which one tastes the most like a traditional mango flavor? And, which tastes the best in general (not necessarily because it tastes "mango-ey" but just because you like it's flavor & consider it worth growing)?
