Il Diván del Tamarit is a recording based on Garcia Lorcas last poem of the same name, written just before his tragic death and considered to be his most intimate and secret work on the theme of love and absence. The music, composed by Vicente Pradal, is refined, elegant and pure, just like the poetry. With the assistance of his ensemble he has succeeded in putting a difficult and hermetic series of poems to music. The Diván is a form of poetry inherited from the Arabic & Andalusian tradition - Tamarit is the name they gave to what later became the Lorcas garden in Granada. Two female and two male voices, including that of Vicente Pradal, and a chorus, interact and give flesh to Garcia Lorcas poignant verse, accompanied by piano and percussions, a saxophone and a double bass. Recorded in Paris, the album is a studio recording made further to a highly successful series of performances in France, with its first stage performance given in Bayonne, France, on 8th October 2007. The stage production will be re-enacted in October 2008 (about 50 performances - dates to be announced). France is releasing the album in parallel to Vicente Pradals new Garcia Lorca production, Yerma, in Paris, at the prestigious Comédie Française, in May 2008. Vicente Pradal was born in 1957 in Toulouse and is the great grandson of Don Antonio Rodriguez Espinosa, who was Fédérico García Lorca schoolmaster of in Fuentevaqueros. He participated in hundreds of concerts with Juan Varea, Rafael Romero, Carmen Linares and Enrique Morente and acknowledges Flamenco guitarist Pepe Habichuela as his most influential guitar teacher. He has also performed traditional music by Bizet, Massenet or de Falla. Dark Night of the Soul led to a parallel album named Llanto por Ignacio Sanchez Mejías which sets to music Lorca's famous poem about a popular matador gored to his death by a bull in the arena. Pradal's discography includes Surface Flamenco, Amenecer, Ida y Vuelta, Guitara Flamenca, La Nuit Obscure, Llanto and Gitano Romancero.
