Natalie's POV
I told my mom that Nick and I got together, and she was happy. I sat next to Nick on the picnic bench and we all started talking and joking around. The doorbell rang. I was about to get up to get it, but Bev went first. I was getting curious where Bev was, and why it was taking her so long. I was getting up to investigate when she walked out the sliding glass door. Joe followed behind her. I felt bad about hurting his feelings. I would've apologized, but I had no idea what there would be to say. "Okay, everyone," my mom called above the talking, "help yourselves to food!" We all got up and got platefulls of food. We sat back down. Beverly sat down in front of me on the other side of the picnic bench. Joe sat next to her, in front of Nick on my right. Nobody said anything. Beverly started eating, being the always-hungry person. "So," I turned to Nick, "When do you guys go back on tour, or something with your fame?" Nick laughed at my wording. "About two weeks." Nick answered, grinning. "Oh, yeah, I love your show. Funny." Bev smiled widely. Nick smiled with gratitude. "Thanks!" Joe smiled back. Nick looked really confused. Nick leaned over to me and whispered really quiet, "He's been grumpy for days. The first smile I've seen for awhile." I nodded, and shrugged. It was rather quiet for a bit more as there was nothing to say. "So how long are you staying with Natalie?" Joe asked her. Bev looked at me, and we both shrugged. "I'll just got home when I don't want to be here, I guess. My mom and dad always work, so they're glad that somebody's going to spend time with me." she replied. My mom started talking to everyone, and the guests all welcomed us to the neighborhood. We eventually got through the awkwardness and acted like a bunch of best friends. I was glad Joe stopped glaring at Nick, or looked at me with some weird look in his eye. I guess he got over it. Later on, the others went home, and that left me, my mom, Beverly, and all the Jonas family. The parents were all talking, and Frankie was playing his gameboy or something. Kevin and Danielle were sitting under the shade of a tree, being as romantic as newlyweds could be. I saw how close Joe was sitting to Beverly: It was almost as close as Nick was to me. Less then two inches. "Well," Bev said, "I'll start cleaning up." She got up and took some of our plates. Joe stood and started grabbing plates also. "I'll help," he offered. So they took the trash and went into the kitchen. "Okay, weird." Nick said, reading my mind. "I know, they were acting so strange." I nodded. I wanted to go and see what they were doing, but if it was important, Bev would tell me. "I guess we better be getting back home." Mrs. Jonas called to Nick and Kevin. They got up and so did I. We went inside and I was hoping I'd walk in on Beverly and Joe kissing or something, but no. They were getting all the trash into a black trash bag. "We're leaving," Nick told Joe timidly. He nodded as they got the last of the trash. I walked with them all to the door. Bev was a foot from Joe. "See you later?" Joe raised his eyebrows at us. "Sure," Bev agreed. He smiled and walked out with his family. Nick turned to me and leaned in. I smiled and pressed my lips against his. He pulled away too soon and with a wave, went back to his house. When I shut the door, I turned to Beverly. "What was that?!" I asked. She was confused, or at least pretending to be confused. "What was what?" she sounded like she meant that. I sighed. "You and Joe." I told her. "What about Joe and I?" I groaned. "You and Joe were sitting next to each other. He smiled at you. He helped you take care of the trash." Was she absolutely clueless, or just good at acting? "Nothing's going on." she assured me, then went upstairs. Whatever. I went upstairs to go to my room, but I passed by Bev's room. I stopped when I heard a noise. She was strumming her guitar! There was definately something up. I didn't want to be nosy, so I just went to my room.
Bev's POV
What was Natalie talking about? Joe and I? Well, yeah, he's cute, and nice, and sweet... Who am I kidding, I DO like him. I grabbed my guitar and notepad, and started strumming a beat. Then I smiled and started writing some lyrics to a song. None of the lyrics actually connected, and I didn't know how to make them go together. So I worked on the rythm. It needed work. It was so frustrating when you were so close to a song, but it just slips away through your fingers! After a while of no success, I put my guitar and notepad away. I looked out my window and saw the Jonas house across the street. I could see into Joe's room. He was at a table in his room, writing on his notebook again. I remembered the need to know what he was writing, what was going through his mind. Before I could get to involved in the desire, I shut my curtain. I went back downstairs and just watched Shark Week on the discovery channel.
