  • This speech is incredibly historic! When you stop to think of how the film 2001 influenced (and polarized people in the 60's) and to listen to Arthur C. Clarke go on about it's historical significance and his own important input into this great film...in retrospect...there is nothing to compare it to, in this day and age.

  • Who is that VERY unpleasant bloke in the lower right of this picture, smoking his cigarette and giving very unpleasant facial expressions?

  • This movie was filmed with a NASA camera, Kubrick was the only person allowed to use this camera, which was also used to fake some of the apollo missions, funding provided by Disney. Kubrick gives us a hint in "The Shinning" ( pay close attention to the sweaters the little boy(Doc) wears throughout the movie (The Shinning))

  • Juice up the volume dude...

  • @cpufightclub What about her?

  • @pacific707 your mother

  • this project was definitely Kubrick's baby...

  • Clarke says he was "First Stage Booster" for 2001:ASO. This has several interpretations:

    1. Initial Thrust imparted

    2. Most Massive Liquid Engines ever devised (Saturn V)

    I choose definition #2

  • This was filmed with a purpose, and we can all see why now, a lovely piece, thank you.

  • @pacific707 This is an interesting cultural thing which I've noticed about the late 50s to early 60s. It has to do with "cool". If you watch, for example, the expressions and mannerisms of The Dave Brubeck quartet (watch?v=faJE92phKzI), you'll see they behave in a similar very low key, calm, serious look. This is even so in the characters in 2001. This is why the word 'cool' was used, to denote low temperature, very unenergetic, calm, collected, nothing stirs you.
