Yep, according to most accounts anyway, "Miss Ordrey" couldn't be consistent and a lot of the time she sang a great deal worse than she did on this recording! It's been written that she really did worry Hank to death with it also and got really offended when Hank told her it'd been requested that she not appear on certain shows with him anymore! He supposedly once complained to Ernest Tubb that "Audrey just won't rest unless she appears on ever' dad-gum network show I'm on!!

Country music was very different in their day. The audience expected family shows. Take for instance the Carter Family. Sarah had divorced Alvin Pleasant Carter, and their fans had no idea. So when we talk of Mrs. Williams, voice or not, she was expected to be part of the show.

Understand the complexities of alcoholism and you will understand why this couple was so troubled. Audrey can sing better than I can and I hope they are both happy together if the after life minutes the booze.
