  • Dear soami2u I absolutely agree with you, that's what I also feel when I listen to this marvellous Haskil's approach to Chopin's music "a huge banquet of joie de vivre". What a pity this seems to be her unique testimony on Chopin. Just listen from 6:29 up to 6:32, bloody fingering, to get nuts. Btw, what would you say about this 7:19, pure clarity, pristine sound, a cristal bell like no one else's.

  • Clara Haskil will never be forgotten which is also true concerning Dinu Lipatti. Both were friends and studied with Alfred Cortot in Paris.

What is remarcable is her light but clear touch of the piano. And of course her great musicality. Despite all health problems and difficulties of life she was a happy person. one can hear that...

  • Sometimes I think that Clara Haskil is the Greatest Pianist ever. From Talent/Fame ratio perspective, I suppose she can be called forgotten. But she will have her time. Like Bach had his.

  • when I hear this, I suddenly realized what's missing in Uchida's music, what Haskil has, what Haebler has, what Uchida DOES not have.

  • @assindiastignani I've known Novaes' Etudes for many years. I love the way she plays so many of them--especially the E major, Op 10 #4 (which I'd easily prefer to the speed records of Richter or Argerich), the "Black Key", the "Revolutionary", the slow C-sharp minor, to name a few. I love her "Winter Wind"--brilliance and excitement without bombast!

  • @soami2u Absolutely! Pires fascinates me, even when I don't necessarily agree with her. But that's what makes a great artist - they convince you. And, incidenrally, who are any of us to agree or disagree with the likes Clara Haskil or Guiomar Novaes?! Check out Novaes' Chopin Études. You'll never listen to anyone else again.

  • @assindiastignani I agree! But I would add that among living pianists, Maria-Joao Pires plays both concertos superbly (listen to how she shapes the 2nd subject in the 1st mvmt of the E Minor, for example), though the Novaes versions are still my all-time faves!

  • Dear all fellow lovers of Clara Haskil: Listen Guiomar Novaes' renditions of the 2 Chopin Concertos. I think you'll love them. More beautiful piano-playing never existed.

  • (sorry for ma bad english, I'm french)

I love this interpretation, Mozart need a light touch and Clara has a marvellous lightness !

But I prefer the Martha Agerich's interpretation for the energy and caractere.
