This piece is derived from George Auric's famous song from his music to the 1952 John Huston movie 'Moulin Rouge' - in the film Zsa Zsa Gabor's character performed the song, but it was actually sung by Muriel Smith. It is probably Auric's most famous composition, but he also wrote concert works, and was one of the last two surviving members of the group of French composers known as "Les Six".(he and Germaine Tailleferre both died in 1983).

  • beautifully played! this piece is lovely.

  • @01feroce Thank you very much!

  • Oh, hello! Nice playing, and Zsa Zsa still lives, driving madly through the streets.

I wish I could put my hands on the sheet music ( me and my piano teacher went crazy when we watched the movie )

  • Thank you! The song has been printed in a lot of compilations of movie songs, songs from the 50's etc. If you have access to a music library you may well find it, or you could buy the song from a digital download site. It is, of course, still in copyright.

  • Your improvisations, meditations, are excellent and have a life of their own - apart from the original piece. Bravo.

In addition, thanks for reviving by that all those forgotten film's music and songs.

  • Thank you. I do them becuase it gives me the opportunity to do some sort of version of songs and pieces for which there is no good published piano transcription.

  • Thank you! Keep practicing, and you will. They say that you have to do 10,000 hours to master an instrument!

  • Thank you for recording this. Perfect piano playing... I wish to play like that someday, hahah. Congratulations!
