  • I'm a card carrying VFW member and proud of it. I came home in '69 and had the same experiences as a lot of folks did. But I don't sit on bar stools and cry about what happened 40 years ago. That's for losers. Looks like there a bunch of folks that need to suck it up and move on. My Post is helping give scholarships to kids, helping vets get the benefits they earned, assisting veterans in need and generally trying to improve the plight of the younger veterans returning home. Do you?

  • @nash912 Right on! The DAV and AMVETS are for veterans. The VFW is for themselves.

  • Don't join the VFW. I am a lifetime member. I would sell my membership back in a heartbeat, if possible. Search "VFW Members Duct Tape a Flag Burner..." and watch the video. Watch vets brag about acting as judge, jury and executioner as they violate their sworn oath to protect and defend the Constitution by violating the rights of a person who, while he might have been a scumbag, was protected by the Constitution. Google Libery Institute to see the neo-con religious nuts the VFW has teamed with

  • I went in the service immediately after Saigon fell. The local VFWs in Dayton, OH would not recognize Viet Nam vets as "Veterans of Foreign Wars".

Now VFW is losing its membership due to attrition. I guess their past attitudes are going to reduce their viability in the future. I would not join them for any reason.

  • Served proudly in VN, and recently in Iraq. I will not darken the door of a VFW establishment. God Bless anyone who is a member, but I won't be one.

  • Very Interesting!

  • @jka1946 I am not wrong in what I said. I don't care who is running the VFW now you can't change history.

  • The VFW has Auxiliaries. They have a Mens Auxiliary and a Womens Auxiliary. These are open to people that have had a parent, grandparent, brother, or sister that has been deployed. You cannot become a member unless you were in the military, deployed, and honorably discharged. Other veteran organizations like the Legion and AmVets have auxiliaries also.

  • You are as wrong as "they" were. Vietnam veterans run the VFW now. The past and present National Commanders are & were Vietnam veterans. Believe me when I say this: "without the VFW there would be no VA! You are retaliating against your Vietnam veteran brothers!

  • Vietnam helicopter pilot. They didn't want me then. Screw them. I will never set foot in a VFW. No need to try to be friends now. I support our troops as an individual. The VFW has wasted a lot of postage on me over the years.
