Wild rice, or manoomin is still harvested in the fall by the Anishinaabe in Minnesota, using a canoe and wooden flails to knock the rice. Thankful for the coming harvest, tobacco is exchanged in prayer for this sacred gift. This is an excerpt from the hour long documentary "The Good Life", an engaging portrait of an Ojibwe community on the White Earth reservation in Minnesota, where the tradition of gathering wild rice is still very much alive.
