Looking back, my first attempts with this are pathetic. See instead my video "Dark Taxi". My first day with it. Improvised (original) Kaossilator tune.
----------
The Kaossilator 2, the upgrade of the handheld Kaossilator, is coming soon in 2012!
----------
Details: This is built on a prepared and Fixed (saved) rhythm with P.97 (House pattern) and S.78 (Reflection SFX), 120 bpm and Egyptian scale (EGY). Then I added two loops of the "shaman voices" (L.14, Digital Talk) and looked for improvisations with A.20 (Trumpet), A.23 (Electric Sitar) and L.12 (XY scale, which means two note scales at right-angles to each other). I think it would be even better with alternating L.14 and L.12 overdubs, using Erase to erase the other voice while recording the new one, and ending on L.12.
For more information on the Kaossilator, go to:
http://www.korg.com/kaossilator
Click on the parts or buttons to get pop-up details.
But the Kaossilator Pro (3 lbs and about double the price) is REALLY something!
And, oh yes, the plural of shaman is shamans, not shamen. The word is Russian by way of the Tunguskan language and ultimately comes from the Sanskrit "shamanya" or ascetic. So it doesn't actually have that sexist "-man" suffix in it! A female shaman might be called a shamanka; I've seen it somewhere but the dictionary doesn't support it.
HALL OF FAME:
Okay, I am a tiny worm, new with a Kaossilator, not a professional musician. Please have a look at a few REALLY GOOD players:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0eegJBpqU0E (modified Kaossilator so he can hit the right notes, in the Loop Length 16 mode)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KkABZ2_uDrs (professional soundtrack musician Tim Rideout)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u3_yXmIfmYg (Gary Kibler: a tune from The Yellow Album)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uZYe5gHLn2Q (Holy cow! An Arabic or Oriental jam with the Kaossilator)
...actually to get back to Program menu, it's easier to just tap Scale twice.

@Dracopol ...there is only one save point, but you can work with that in the structure of your song: (basic beat) (basic beat) FIX (add more drums) (add melody 1) (add melody 2) Can to get back to basic beat (add new kind of drums) (add new melody 3) (add melody 4) set to a new melody sound 5 and STOP THE LOOP for a dramatic solo, then restart Loop. You can play over FIX operations and play during Erase to record new stuff over the erased.

@uralhills Suppose you record 3 layers in a loop and FIX that. Then you record 2 more layers. If you hold down Loop you will see the beat count. Turn the knob past "FIX" to "Can" (Cancel) and it will cancel only the 2 layers you added since the last FIX. If you turn the knob once more to "Clr" (Clear) it will erase everything.

cool :) but it erase all the layers that recorded in fix mode, not only one or exact one. but it is still a great option ))

@Dracopol ...Oh, but if you use the Loop Length 16 mode, you can't Fix anything. To bring the Loop Length to 16 (L 16), hold down Loop and Tap and then turn on the switch. You will see "DLY". Then hold down Loop and press Tap and dial the Loop Length to L 16. 16 beats! However, any overdub you do stays, you can't undo it unless you erase the whole sound.

@uralhills It's called the FIX operation. It is in the Kaossilator instructions, and it acts as a save point. You can erase anything added after that, if you have to, without affecting the FIXed stuff.
Another hint: if you keep Scale pressed, and tap Loop, you can return quickly to the Program menu from any other menu, without waiting for it to flash.

wow, you've just open the f13 mode to me! i could not imagine kaoss able to erase definite layer. i could erase only the whole loop. thanx )

I found out an amusing thing. If you choose d.84 (Breakdown) and drum at the top edge of the touch pad, and wait, you get a "rising feedback". To cancel it, drum somewhere else.
