actually, all digital cameras including webcams are infrared cameras but include an infrared filter to block infrared light. I have converted plenty of cameras to infrared by removing the infrared filter.

Insects do behave in a manner where they move around in all directions in a circular motion. Just look for yourselves on a really hot day when the sun's shining. This is a bit odd and considering the time of year when it's not peak heat is a little more baffling.
