The Back Country area was designated as a special feature to Morgan-Monroe State Forest where naturalists could enjoy an untouched place of repose for generations. Recently, the Division of Forestry has decided to ignore this noble vision's foundations and auction off sections of trees to the highest commercial bidder. This short video shows the aftermath of logging crews laying down gravel roads and clear cutting two logging yards in Morgan Monroe's Back Country in preparation for an unwise and wholly unprofitable sale. Please visit www.indianaforestalliance.org to learn more on how you can help save the trees set for removal and stop the organizations responsible for harming our land.
And I seriously doubt it was an unprofitable sale.

Oh, my gosh. They... put rock on an access road. How terrible. This forest is second and third growth - not old growth. It is being managed as a forest and not being bulldozed for a Walmart, housing subdivision, or new interstate. Consider it a good thing that it is being maintained for trees into perpetuity. DE-forestation is the real enemy.

i spent a lot of time in my youth hiking the back country of the morgan-monroe. but, this is the mid-west, which has seen more landscape change than almost any other place on the planet. i live in arizona. if you want to live in an area that is not so fragile you should leave indiana and move to the western us. sorry, but your perspective is small. they will soon put an interstate through where you are near in the filming. good luck!
