Would it make it easier to start winding the thread if you threaded the needle first. That way you would be less likely to lose the needle when you were trying to get to it. Also threading in your living room would be easier then trying to thread it in a survival situation. Neat concept though!

How the heck do you get to, not only the thread, but more importantly, the needle?

You need to carefully cut the heat shrink tubing to get to the thread and needle. Scoring the tubing with an x-acto a little at a time is the best way we've found to not cut the inner thread.

So when you are out in the wild.

With freezing hands and holes in your socks. you need to bring along an extra sharp knife for you to get to the needle and thread.

and then you need to wind 200 windings of thread before you can get to the needle.

and what if you want to save some thread for later?

I see the concept. But it has some obvious flaws.

@jamoore3192 not that i'm the uploader but no, you probably won't be a able to do much with this if using natural tinder, you really need something bigger that will produce more sparks, which is why i use the cheaper and bigger flint strikers. this thing is really designed to fit into the "life capsule" which can hold a few more survival items, plus (i can't help but notice) is just about small enough to stick up your arse in a military POW type situation.

I agree with m2dk that there are some short comings but at least you would have it as a option.I would suggest 10 lb. spider wire stealth over thread,it is much stronger.This would be a good little edc starter.
