this video is real quick! Sorry I threw this up over the weekend, pause it on a slide to read.

Practical Life "snipet"
Exercises provide self help skills that lead to independence. They allow the child to take care of himself, others and environment. The movements required build self confidence as the child gains self mastery.

When I work with the children it is in small settings (2-5) for meals. I start by giving them very little to no processed foods. I choose foods that they can pick up easily with their own fingers. I place the utensils beside the plate and eat right along side them using utensils too. I don't really talk a lot about the way we use things, rather let them see how to use things. They always want to imitate me,-usually starting out with holding a utensil in one hand while eating with their fingers using the other hand. This is fine and good practice. I do talk with them about the food and the day to make light conversation & make it enjoyable. In some of my videos you will see I use a small pitcher of water and let them learn to pour themselves a glass. I don't use high chairs and when ever they want to leave the table, I wash their hands with their wash rag and take up their service. They learn real soon to stay at the table on their own. I don't have them sitting in their own seat until around 9mo.

More info: Watch a child around two and notice how he is interested in more than objects as a whole. He will study their qualities, such as roughness, smoothness, hardness, softness, color, taste, texture weight, pliability, and more.
