One of the great Gershwin tunes. This time I tried another experiment. Having heard the wonderful Herbie Hancock accompaniment on this same tune elsewhere on Youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BRfnfsN2orU I thought I would try the same tune as a tutorial.
I first recorded the bass and drums, then video-ed the solo instrument playing (more or less) the tune. Then, I added the piano accompaniment in a further pass.
All parts were improvised - since each video recording was also recorded as midi, the notation, comments, keyboard views came later, and assembled on a rather crowded screen! You will probably need to watch in HD mode to see the detail - or download (free) an excellent quality video and the midi file, from my website at http://www.bushgrafts.com . On my DVD there is also a printable transcription of the piano accompaniment, and also the bass and drums backing track. Details are on my website.

  • I love the looseness of this multitrack. Great playing and terrific mix, Doug. I'll have to look for this trumpet on my CP300. I didn't know I had it! (if I do)

  • Thanks Tom. It is just one of the standard Yamaha XG Brass patches patch 4 - 'Trombone'

  • lovely

  • Love your Gershwin playing. Every time i see news of a Gershwin song on your channel, i come to see.

  • thanks for posting.

    i like very much

  • Certainly, your experiment is a success in my book, thank you for sharing.

  • congratulations on your experimentations. tho..I wonder if one invests too much time with the electronic aspects of todays instruments you loose sight of the goal of creating/playing music. just a thought, not a critique. thanks you for your video.

  • beautifull<3

  • Excellent Doug. Looks like I'm your first comment and first rating.

I have the Yamaha Clavinova and it has that same trombone stop and I use it quite often. I like the effect of it with a trombone quartet against bass and drums.

I look forward to your offerings. Thanks.
