Does anyone know if this actually is British Band Leader Jack Payne? Possibly a later recording? If anyone knows, I'd be very grateful.
The songs are ''That Old Black Magic'' & ''At Last'' with an unknown vocal.
I haven't added any echo, it was actually on the disc itself. Wonder if it was recorded in a large hall?

  • Possibly a radio transcription?

I do not believe this is the British bandleader Jack Payne. There was an American bandleader in the late 40's with the same name and I believe this is the band featured.

The arrangement and vocalist sound American.

Moreover, the label states 78 and 33rpm. The L.P. speed started in 1948 and Britains Jack Payne disbanded in 1946.

I have also heard a few war-time broadcasts by Jack Payne and the sound is totally different.

  • @jackpaynefan Thank you very much for your invaluable information. I didn't believe it was our own Jack Payne, but had never heard of another band leader with the same name. I wish I hadn't bought it now, but I suppose someone who is a fan of the American Band Leader Jack Payne might come along and purchase it from me!

  • This is definitely a Radio transcription, and also, this has a post-1948 style 'Audiodisc Blank' label on it.
