@mattybock where i live, downtown condos are 2k.apartments are about 700 and its not even a special city in any way at all. i am a teenager. i would get paid 5$ an hour. id be lucky to get 15 hours a week at my age. at 16, you can 'legally' move out and get your own house or apartment. how the hell does a 16 year old with barely 300$ a month make 700$ a month? its money, they dont give a flying fuck. or two shits, if it matters which way you put it.

i made minimum wage, my hours are 20 a week, about 80 a month. that's all my employer gives me. So I make around 400 a month.
Rent is about 650, so I live at home with my parents.
