Form of the Song
"Blackbird" is a track from The Beatles' 1968 self-titled album, The Beatles, more commonly known as The White Album. The song was written by Paul McCartney with guitar assistance from George Harrison. The intro to the song has influenced from J.S. Bach and uses a picking pattern. The song itself is unique in its form and features both finger picking and finger strumming mixed together.
The song is fairly simplistic and not too difficult to play after a little practice. The whole song revolves around a particular acoustic guitar pattern that repeats throughout most of the song. "Blackbird" is divided into A sections and B sections. Each A section consists of the intro walk-down riff and a verse. Each B section ("Blackbird fly...") also contains the intro riff at the end of the phrase.
The form of the song follows this pattern:
* Section A (I)
* Section A (II)
* Section B (I)
* Section B (II)
* Section A (III) ("You were only waiting...")
