Maintaining a healthy home by controlling humidity and ventilating your home. Hans Willi Babka, Chemist and Building Biologist, and MD of Ecotec Naturfarben who manufacture Volvox Clay Decor natural paint, in conversation with Painters, and staff from Eco at Home.

Healthy home tips: ventilating to control humidity.
Transcipt:
The clay soaks in water and gives it out again.
Normally a room which is done with clay walls or with clay paint, it comes between 30 and 70 percent of humidity. That is something in between. This is what the clay paint is doing, it is regular. (regulates it - i.e. the humidity). If you put more and more humidity into it then we have of course a problem.
But nowadays we have double glaze or triple glaze, and old buildings, family is having their showers, everybody at least 2, maybe 3 or 4 times, so we have much more moisture in the house. And of course we protect them more and more so the moisture can't go out.
I think we must teach the people if they have to ventilate their houses they should do that 2 or 3 times a day, open this side, open that side and so that the air go through for 3 or 4 minutes, that's enough.

Hans Willi Babka is a Chemist and Building Biologist who develops paint and building products that
1. cause no harm to the workers or the environment during manufacturing,
2. cause no danger to the people who use the products,
3. pose no danger to inhabitants that live or work where the products have been used and
4. when finally disposed of, do no harm to the environment.
