This is my 1978 Mercury Grand Marquis...has 275,000 miles on it (375,000??) and still runs very well. It has a 400 CID engine with FMX automatic transmission. It has had all of the brake components replaced including wheel cylinders, rubber lines and master cylinder, new carburetor, valve cover gaskets, voltage regulator, alternator, starter solenoid, radiator, fuel pump, tires and wheels, new belts and hoses, and I added a gauge package to it as it does not have any factory gauges except fuel. The factory Philco-Ford 8 track radio still works well!
It has driven to Abilene and the Dallas metroplex many times with no trouble.

I dont see how that thing passed the Texas State Emission law thing here since you know here in Texas that we have to have that emission's test thing.

  • It has always passed its state inspection...emissions tests are not required in this area.

  • howed u repair ur vynal specifcally? mines all cracked too

  • I'm sorry I can't give advice on vinyl, I just removed all of the old vinyl and painted the top.

  • Nice, "1978 Mercury Grand Marquis", it looks like the one, I watch the movie called "The Terminator", where Kyle Reese(Michael Biehn) is hot-wiring the red "Grand Marquis" to protect Sarah Connor(Linda Hamilton) from the bad Terminator robot(Arnold Schwarzenegger).

  • Hi Chad,

I've been meaning to ask you this for sometime now, are the headlight covers operational on this car? I ask because I've never once seen them closed.

    Thanks,

    Matthew

  • I enjoyed watching your video. My dad bought my mom a 77 or 78 Mercury Colony Park wagon. My dad at the time had a Mercury Marquis (or possibly a Grand Marquis). I have fond memories of those big, comfy cars.

  • @retrochad i thought since it is 25 years or older u r not required for an e check?

  • You can find still a shroud for your car, as long as it comes from that era

ford or merc with the 400 under hood, check out my 77 ltd it came from

    south carolina

  • its a 460. man, thats like loosing your wad.

  • how about the 74 LTD brougham with everything like selectaire climate control and the 460 4bbl?

  • those thick tires look comfy!

  • I feel bad for you because yours has the same 400ci engine mine does, but you have half the power.

Mine is a 72 merc monterey wagon. MASSIVE.
