This is a video related to the Ingmar Nordströms videos I've presented before since it contains their first singer Lars "Snaggen" Söderström-Adler (1940-2004) who was the bass player and singer in Ingmar Nordströms 1955-62. He won a talent contest for vocalists in 1959 arranged by the Swedish magazine "Vecko-Revyn". The prize was a recording for the record label BFB (Bonniers Folkbibliotek) and he shared this record together with the female winner of the same contest Birgith Kjellgren (1940-88). One quite interesting piece of trivia is that Birgith Kjellgren was approached by Ingmar Nordström who wanted her to join his band, but she turned him down. Anyway, this video is about Snaggen Söderström who left Ingmar Nordströms in 1962 and moved to Värmland and became the lead singer of another popular pop group/dansband Öiwinds and he recorded some popular and well selling EPs with them. Then later he joined another popular group called Garvis Showband, and later in life he became the singer with the amateur music group "Club 62", which consisted of mainly former members from Garvis Showband. He passed away in 2004. The song I present here is a Swedish cover of the song "The Preacher" with Swedish lyrics by Peter Himmelstrand (1936-99) using the pseudonym Eva Nordström, and the most famous Swedish version was made by Siw Malmqvist, but I prefer this version -- mainly cause Snaggen's voice is much more jazzy. The record is alas rather worn, but it is also rather rare and I haven't found a cleaner copy. The orchestra accompanying Snaggen Söderström isn't Ingmar Nordströms, but Leif Kronlund and his orchestra. I like Snaggen's voice very much and think it a shame that he isn't more famous.

  • I'm interested in hearing Garvis. have you uploaded any? if not can you? (:

  • @runawayfromtheghosts Seems like there is a general interest for Garvis, so it might be a good idea for me to make something by them available soon. So ... I'll see what I can do. Cheers!

  • Would you happen to have any of Garvis' stuff to upload?

  • @Zachism I have some Garvis stuff, and I may upload it later if there is an interest. Not with Snaggen though, but with a very young Bert Månson (who later would play with Ingmar Nordströms for many years).
