  • how many strings is he playing on for the little solo ?

  • the solo is played on 2 strings only. The E and B string. The run is quite a popular major run, so if you get this songs you will be able to use bits of it on lots of others such as Heartbeat and Cheating Heart

  • how much was that

and is there anything like it but less expensive considering its a gibson?

  • I saved for some time to get the Gibson 135, so yes it cost quite a bit. But, what really made me want the guitar was that it already had the Bigsby trem fitted. The guitar is the Memphis issue: most have a standard tailpiece. My Hondo cost less then the Bigsby i fitted on it, so there are lots of guitars out there. I have heard the vintage make of guitars are quite good.

  • Buddy Holly is my favourite singer of the 50's. Another 2 cool songs from the 50's people seem to forget is "Come on lets go" by Ritchie Vanlens (very underrated and has a nice solo too) as well as "Hippy Hippy Shake" by Chan Romero (most people don't actually realize that it was from the 50's and it it has a nice solo too).

  • very cool tone ,thanks for posting this cool lesson

  • I would of figured Tommy Allsup, but even at that time session players were common. Your performance sounds just like the recording-what more can be said other than superb. Be kinda special to hear you play 'Black Mountain Rag'.

  • Hey a bit late but to add my pennies worth, listening to the Decca sessions the style of guitar in Blue Days, Midnight Shift, Don't Come Back Knocking et al, do not sound like any of the Nashville A team session players.

I think the best example is the two versions of Ollie Vee, the first is the same style of the the others above and recorded at the same sessions, where as the second later version is very much Grady Martin's playing style. But yeah Buddy changed the world!

  • I love me some "Blue Days, Black Nights!" You sir, are a tribute to Buddy Holly's legacy!

  • hi fast eddie!!!

have you a web site where we can found this tab or other songs?

  • Brilliant playing and sound

  • Great lesson, Fast Eddie. Be back tonight

    to nail the lead part.

    Thanks.

  • Man, you are great! Could you cover the Buddy song called Wishing? Especially during the verse when Buddy is playing all these fast little single note runs.

  • did buddy holly actually create these guitar parts, or was it some session player?
