  • Thanks for posting this one of a kind treasure!! I've never seen a film before of Brubeck; Desmond; and Mulligan on stage together. I think that this was from a German TV special made during the '72 European tour which produced the LP "We're all Together Again for the First Time". That was great to see.

  • It is quite rare footage, wish the audio was better but it's still a great performance!

  • My great uncle is playing the bass. This is great video.

  • True Desmond-philes or jazz improvisors will get this: I've just decoded a Desmond quote in his solo here at 1:55-1:59 where he quotes Rodgers and Hart's "The Most Beautiful Girl in the World". Brubeck smiles at 2:00 when he recognizes the quote. That is musical genius 1.)to work it into the solo and 2.) to recognize it on the fly. Man they could play.

  • I saw the DB Quartet, in the fall of '62, at the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium. They played everything, including "Take Five." Desmond had to have been the #1 most laid-back cat that ever lived. He never moved; mostly he just leaned up against the piano. When the audience and the other three musicians were rocking out to one of Desmond's solos, he just stood there, blowing away, completely motionless. Finally, near the end of a really hot song, he started tapping ONE FOOT. He did that one time.

  • Awesome! no matter with the audio.. it still awesome!

  • thanks for the posting of this historic group

  • RIP Paul Desmond, I wish he's still alive so they could do a reunion with Dave, Joe and Gene.

  • Man, I would killt o see footage of this group performing " Take Five. " The " all together again, etc, " version is absolutely fantastic. These guys were so tight and swingin'.

  • Two of my favorite sax players! With Dave Brubeck!

  • " We're all together again for the first time." This is the same group that performed on the aforementioned album. Classic ! Alan Dawson was a spectacular drummer. The group's version of " Take Five " is swingin' as all hell.
