It was the birthday installment of Ask Dr Hal. The mystery opening act turned out to be Dr Hal himself reciting from memory the great poem by John Milton. It exceeded 10 minutes in length, with a few lines missing from my videography; this is the 1st of 2 parts.
A horrible performance. This is how NOT to recite a long poem, affected voice, absolutely no body involvement whatsoever, I'm being harsh I know but if I didn't have such standards I'd be this bad and out of work as a performer

Amazing.
I'm currently struggling to memorize Eliot's "Ash Wednesday," which is hard enough.
Hats off, Dr. Hal.
Milton would be pleased.

He succeeded.
It's a pity that art like this has died in the wake of what is shinier.

I have spent months practicing recitations from the first two chapters. Dr Hal clearly has a grasp of this difficult and complex oratory. John Milton, half blind, sat down with the intention of producing the greatest epic poem ever spoken in the English Tongue.
