The world's second, and largest, hybrid powered monocopter videotaped by Liberty Launch Systems and posted with their permission. I own the monocopter and built and designed it.

  • It's an utterly insane idea, but I've been sketching designs for such things for decades! Can you give it the glide characteristics of a Maple Seed for recovery?

  • This was a last minute kind of bash because of a leftover airfoil. The trick to mapleseed recovery is very light weigh and a wing with a bunch of lift. This was a small wing for the weight. Look at other of my smaller wings and most do the mapleseed. If I redo this one (which is very possible) I will put a much larger, lighter wing with a lower angle of attack for the same amount of lift up and more braking going down.

  • but its pointless, its not stable and it need a lot of energy to send of this.

you can use it as toy but not more...

    anyway,still nice work (y)

at least you have done something new...

  • search for military nano monocopters, also someone at MIT is doing a man capable monocopter IIRC.....they have their niche, but as you note it is very small

  • its made out of rubbet bands and tissue paper

  • Carbon fiber, kevlar and balsa ;-)

  • @TopGunMan Sounds like a definate plan...

  • wtf that sux i i don't undertant this is vs nature

  • Oh my God, that poor thing corkscrewed into the ground! Were there any survivors onboard?!

    ;-)

  • I think this is one of the rocket powered helos. Delta force uses them. They are powered by hydrogen peroxide that hits a nickle mesh at the end of each blade. they peroxide expands into gas, thus creating a rocket at the end of each blade. i saw a model of backpack one when i was in army helicopter skewl

  • flawless outlaw rocketry.

  • i don't understand how you could think of this and NOT put a ramjet on that.......
