Introductory video about the lecture component of Logan Smalley's "Darius Goes West" lecture/film presentation.
Logan Smalley is director of the multi-award-winning documentary Darius Goes West, which chronicles the epic cross-country road trip he and 10 others took in 2005 with then 15-year-old Darius Weems, a friend stricken with fatal Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. Through this journey, Logan, Darius and the crew have proven beyond a doubt that idealism and creativity can result in tangible progress. To date, they've helped raise nearly $2,000,000 for Duchenne research, the film has won 28 film festival awards, and most impressively, theyve created a national movement.
Logans lecture/film program Lessons from the Big Fat Road includes a screening of the film and a discussion about the ways audience members can make a difference in their own communities fundraising strategy, independent filmmaking, community building, viral marketing, cross-curricular activities, service learning and more all of which Logan, Darius and the crew learned by having the audacity and imagination to do things themselves.
