@789janderson Yeah With Craig Gannon playing great rythm guitar it really filled their sound out to what the studio versions sounded like. Johnny Marr was like Jimmy Page of Led Zeppelin in the studio; layers of guitars but he only has 2 hands on stage so some of the fullness of the sound went away live before Craig joined them. If they ever reunite whicj I can't see happening, I hope he's invited back as well.

The Rank sound is the best they ever sounded.

envy the fans

Tightest rhythm section EVER!
Nuff said!

As with "a light that never goes out " . I do remember this beautiful song from my youth, but never knew it were the Smiths behind it. This is such an amazing song.,

Although I like the fuller sound with Gannon, I still prefer the emptier sound in the early Smiths with just Johnny. The melancholic nature of Morrissey's lyrics and style in my opinion complement the sparse mix far better.

i guess this is the best performance of this tune, j.m. can cut glass with his playing...

i still remember mark and lard playing this on their last show. as it finished, they both said "...ah "

I always thought this performance of 'Boy..' was sublime and, like all the 'Queen is Dead' songs on 'Rank' so much better than the studio version. 'Rank' to my mind is the only album that really captued the potential of The Smiths - this five piece live line up was the definitive version - and a hugely underrated album, mainly I think because it was live and released after they split up.
