On a freezing night in December 2009, all kinds of magical new pop-up projects and community-driven shops celebrated their launch at Brixton Village - the old Granville Arcade indoor market. The new shopkeepers were winners of a competition to bring a new lease of life to this 1930s market arcade.
There's everything from vintage fashion boutiques to local food shops, lantern-makers and photographers, as well as a children's magazine, a Community Shop run by Transition Town Brixton and friends, and the Remade in Brixton Work-Shop where you can upcycle your old clothes or by wallets made from windsurfing sails and belts made from old bike tires.
