Most people don't realize how hard it is for people with down syndrome to walk when they are younger or even older without leg braces, it takes dedication and determination on the part of the child and her physical therapists to see that she walks normally. This is Maria, she was born 10 weeks early with down syndrome (not a result of being born early). She spent around the first 12 weeks of her life in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit growing bigger and stronger until she was ready to come home. She literally was a half a million dollar baby as the stay cost a little under $500,000 (all paid for by government agencies since she was born weighing less than a certain weight. (She was 2 lbs when born). She is now four weighs about 25-30lbs and doing great. This video was shot when she was about three.
my favorite part of this video is the other children cheering for her :)
