Last week, the Mexican government announced that it will no longer jail users of small amounts of marijuana, cocaine and heroin. Other countries in the region have taken similar steps.

Is Mexico taking the right approach in ending the prosecution of people caught with small amounts of marijuana and other drugs? Tell us what you think in the comments section below.

John Walsh, a senior associate on drug policy for the Washington Office on Latin America, joins Martin Savidge to discuss the new law, U.S. concerns and the larger drug war in Mexico.

  • Hey AMerica Wake up.

Stop using peoples lives to make money.

The U.S. imprisons more people per capita

than any other country in the world. Privatized

prisons huge money makers. Viva la Mexico. Peace.

  • It is a pity that the progressive drug laws of my country, the Netherlands, were not mentioned in this report. After all, they have significantly reduced crimes related to drugs here.

  • awesome, keep the progression train going. cause no matter what naysayers say or do its gonna happen cause the majority of the ppl in the world know the BS scare tactics and ignorance are losing their strength quickly. Plus ppl every where need money and we all know drugs can generate billions, even trillions in some cases. Whether theyre legal or illegal ppl love gettin their mind altered.
