I appreciate this as one who had a very difficult dad. He did some very good things and was not the worst father anybody ever had. However he seemed to have the attitude that I and his children were in fact his possessions, and acted as if that were the case.

He took it as a personal affront to him if I made an honest mistake or if he was not pleased with something. I took much verbal and emotional abuse from him in the guise of "loving" rebukes which he decided I needed "for my own good".
