@hirvepaska it is compared to 580ex II.

buy Nissin Speedlite Di866 Mark II instead, its much better than 430 and cheaper.

Excellent review, much appreciated! I kind of had the sense that the LED wasn't really going to cut it, and the pre-flash would also drive me nuts. Shutter remote was the nice part.
Just attended Dave Black off-camera flash & lightpainting seminars. Amazing. For using off-cam, would you say the 430 (despite lack of shutter remote & LED) with my T3i acting as master would better serve me in the long run than the 320 could with its nuisances & limitations? Thanks!

@elraie66 - Unless you really think you will shoot video with that LED, then I prefer the 430 as a flash in every way, including off-camera.

so for someone who would use a flash 100% of the time on camera instead of off, and someone who equally does video and stills on their hdslr, will a 320ex be better than a 430ex ii?

@hoyKEBIN - I think that depends on how well you can tolerate the pre-flashes for focus assist on the 320, versus the nice infrared assist on the 430. Frankly, for me, the pre-flash thing is intolerable in event-shooting situations, so I need a 430 or 580 for those shoots. If it's just your family and friends who you are dazzling with the pre-flashes, maybe you can get by with the 320.
