GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) - In a way, police say, Luis Partee Chavez was murdered twice.
The gunshot to the chest, a pathologist testified Friday, was
enough to kill the 19-year-old Grand Rapids man, but so was the impact from the Cadillac that ran him down moments later.
Friday, it was Omar Rosas, 18, the man allegedly behind the wheel, who was ordered to stand trial for open murder in the Nov. 27 death. He also was ordered to go to trial on charges of driving into Chavez's brother and a friend, who also were running away.
Police say they were getting closer to making an arrest of the gunman.
A young woman testified that the trouble appeared to start inside the Palace party hall on Kalamazoo Avenue SE early in the morning, when a DJ made comments about the Mexican Mob, leading to angry words and gang signs.
