The best way is crush the ice to smaller pieces and add a little water at a time until it turns light grey blue. Place the thermometer in the solution and allow to sit for 5 minutes noting readings every minute. Once the change is better than 0.01 deg cel you have a good ice point reference. Putting the ice in a wide mouth flask would be better. Swish the solution / flask round slowly so that the ice moves.

Thanks!
Maybe you can do a video that explains how Bridgestone can handle such huge loads from dump trucks like the Cat 797 on 63 inch rims. Wait. Those tires are Michelin! ;-)
Ah well. I'm more likely to buy Bridgestone for my next set than Michelin.
Load of rubbish! How do you know your reference temperature is accurate? You really don't understand temperature calibration ice is below zero DUH!
You need to know how to make a zero ice bath you wally.
You need calibrated equipment and use correct immersion depth, I guess I lost you there? What uncertainty of measurement have you calculated? Is the reference 4 or 10 times more accurate?

@tankman35 I wasn't going for laboratory grade. Under normal conditions, water freezes at 32º F. So by letting ice sit in some cold water for a reasonable time, it is likely that the whole thing is about 32º F.
Did you want me to measure the black body temperature of the ice?

One difference that I noted was that you said "stick it in" the water, and "poke it in" the rum.

Unfortunately I don't own a digital thermometer. I should get one.
